President’s Message

Rev. Carey G. Anderson,
D. Min.

Welcome to the website of the Communities of Concern Commission!

I am Pastor Carey G. Anderson, of the First AME Church of Seattle, and am honored to serve as President of the Communities of Concern Commission in this Season. The Commission was established to promote social welfare and economic development by empowering BIPOC nonprofit organizations underserved communities located in urban and rural areas. This includes capacity building by helping fund BIPOC nonprofit organizations to thrive by creating, managing and owning their own affordable housing development projects and community facilities. The Communities of Concern Commission is dedicated to address the impacts of poverty and institutional racism that disproportionally affect BIPOC populations.

I applaud the work of my predecessor, Ellen Abellera, who has done a phenomenal job in serving as our President. I stand on her shoulders as we blaze a new path of continued excellence and economic accessibility.

We welcome your feedback through our website on our work regarding racial justice and economic development!

Peace,

Rev. Carey G. Anderson, D. Min.
